SCO provides springboard for India to reconnect to extended neighbourhood of Eurasian countries: MEA Secretary West Vikas Swarup

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) provides a springboard for India to reconnect to the extended neighbourhood of Eurasian countries. Engagement of more than a decade with the organization, underscores country's willingness to play a more meaningful role in this regional grouping. Secretary West in the Ministry of External Affairs, Vikas Swarup said this while addressing a webinar hosted by Indian Council of World Affairs .<br />'' <br />''He said, India's growing economic potential and vast experience in building institutional capabilities, can add greater value to SCO's ongoing projects and share best practices in newer areas to forge a common vision for the region. Mr. Swarup informed that India has also offered to host a new SCO Special Working Group on Startups and Innovation and formation of a new Sub Group on cooperation in Traditional Medicine.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">He said, SCO has emerged as a key regional organization in the Eurasian space in the past two decades and induction of new states has helped broaden its scope and effectiveness. Mr. Swarup asserted that SCO has been successful in addressing common security challenges and building long-term economic and energy linkages. India will be assuming the Chairmanship of the Council of SCO Heads of Government later this year.</span><br />
