Scientists working on project to provide early earthquake warnings: Dr. Harsh Vardhan

Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that scientists in India are working on a project to provide early earthquake warnings.<br/><br/>In an exclusive interview to All India Radio he said, a research is being carried out in Koyna, Maharashtra, which is an earthquake prone area. He said, the earth surface has been drilled 3.5 Kms underneath to place the sensors there.<br/><br/>The sensors will record observations under the earth, and will provide information of happenings there. The minister said, within two years some success can be expected in the research.<br/><br/>Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, with the help of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) labs, Delhi Metro can be forewarned about the earthquake much earlier than the rest of the world.
