UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that scientists predict the extreme storm during this year's Atlantic hurricane season will be 'new normal' of the warming world. <br/><br/>Stating this during his hurricane-battered Caribbean today, Mr. Guterres said that scientists are learning more and more about the links between climate change and extreme weather. <br/><br/>As for changes in major climate systems, Mr. Guterres said sea levels have risen more than 10 inches since 1870. The secretary-general will be visiting Antigua and Barbuda, and Dominica, on Saturday to survey the damage and assess what more the United Nations can do. <br/><br/>Mr. Guterres stressed for innovative financing mechanisms which will be crucial to enable these small islands to recover, rebuild and strengthen resilience.
