The visiting Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev today said that scientific and academic exchanges between India and Russia will help both the countries to develop further on the path of globalization. Addressing the students and faculty members of IIT, Mumbai in their campus this afternoon, President Medvedev invited Indian students to explore opportunities of higher education in Russia. He also invited academic leaders from India to address Russian students.President Medvedev said that development of nanotechnology is a top priority for Russia and it had already established various projects in this field. He asked India to be a participant in the research and funding of this upcoming field so as to mutually share the benefits.Supporting India’s bid for the United Nations Security Council, the Russian President reiterated his support but added that India would need to develop a consensus among many other nations on this issue. Speaking about disarmament, the Russian President said that total disarmament is possible only when all countries mutually agree to it. He added that countries are intelligent enough to minimise the use of weapons of mass destruction.The President also spoke about the need for encouraging budding entrepreneurs and improving trade figures between the two countries. Recalling that the IIT, Mumbai started with Russian support, President Medvedev asked young students to develop more personal and face to face interaction and not just rely on facebook and remote internet technology.
