Schools resume classes in violence hit areas of Assam

In Assam, most schools resumed classes today in the violence hit Bodoland Territorial Area Districts, BTAD and neighbouring Dhubri district. Assam government has made temporary arrangements to resume classes where educational institutes are being used as relief camps. Classes have also resumed in most of the schools in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts. The Commissioner-Secretary of state Elementary Education L S Changsan said that classes in all the schools and colleges, in the violence hit districts, are likely to start in another ten days.

Meanwhile, North East Students Organisations’, NESO, today held a protest rally in Guwahati in support of their various demands including the deportation of illegal migrants. Senior citizens, students and members of 26 indigenous groups also participated in the rally.

In Nagaland, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) sponsored ‘Total Nagaland Bandh’ today paralyzed the normal activities throughout the state. NSF sources told AIR, Kohima that all business establishments, banks, educational institutes are closed and vehicles remained off the road. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the state so far.

In Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh also, normal life has been badly affected due to the dawn to dusk bandh to protest against discrimination of North-East people in other parts of the country.
