Most of the government schools and some of the private schools re-opened on Monday after almost three months of curfew and shut down in Kashmir valley. The authorities have made elaborate arrangements to provide security and transport facility to the students and the teaching staff.However, the attendance in most of the schools is very thin.More than 170 buses have been deployed on 11 city routes for facilitating the movement of students and school staff.State Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed on Monday announced a comprehensive plan for restarting the learning process and holding of annual examinations in the Valley. He said the department will ensure that students of the Valley do not lose a precious academic year due to the ongoing unrest.Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has asked parents not to send their wards to schools and colleges.Meanwhile, Home Minister P Chidambaram has appealed to all sections of people in Jammu and Kashmir, especially parents, to cooperate with the state government and ensure that all schools and colleges function normally.The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has directed the expert group set up by him to ensure the employment opportunities generated in Jammu and Kashmir are sustainable. An official release said, Dr. Singh reviewed the work of the Expert Group headed by former RBI Governor C Rangarajan. The Prime Minister had set up the panel of experts on August 10 to formulate a job plan for Jammu and Kashmir.
