The Madras High Court today set aside an order of a single judge staying the fee structure fixed by Justice Govindarajan Committee for private schools in the state. A bench comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam passed an order to this effect on an appeal filed against the stay order. The bench said that the 6,400 private schools which raised objections before the fee fixation committee shall not collect any fee more than what was collected by them in June 2010 at the rate fixed for the previous academic year. The fee that has been collected in excess of the rate fixed by the Committee shall be retained as fixed deposit by the respective institution. The bench also said that legal action will be taken against institutions if complaints of excess fees are received by the concerned authorities.
