SC will give an open court hearing on a petition seeking review of its judgment on Uphaar fire tragedy

Supreme Court will give an open court hearing on a petition seeking review of its August 19, 2015 judgment on Uphaar fire tragedy. After in-chamber proceeding, a three-judge bench comprising justices AR Dave, Kurian Joseph and AK Goel decided to hear, in an open court, the review petition filed by the CBI and Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy. The CBI, in its review plea, said that the apex court did not give it time to put its views forth, which has resulted in the miscarriage of justice.

The three-judge bench had asked Ansal brothers – Sushil and Gopal – to pay 30 crore rupees each within three months, which they have already deposited. In the 1997 Uphaar fire tragedy 59 cine-goers had died of asphyxia during the screening of Bollywood movie 'Border' in South Delhi's Green Park area.
