SC verdict would only make SYL canal functional: Haryana CM

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal today said that the Sutlej Yamuna Lank Canal cannot be made functional with "Fawda aur Belcha", as the issue is with the Supreme Court and it's verdict would only make the canal functional.<br/> <br/>The Chief Minister was replying to the questions of media persons at Meet the Press Programme at Chandigarh today. Notably Indian National Lok Dal has announced to go to Punjab to dig the SYL canal.<br/><br/>He said that the issue of Presidential Reference had been pending for the last 12 years and it appeared that the previous governments did nothing to resolve the issue. He said that the present Government had, soon after assuming office, pursued the case with the Supreme Court and the Punjab Termination of Agreements Act, 2004 was nullified.<br/><br/>Mr Manohar Lal said that he had already led a delegation of all political parties to urge the President of India to make the SYL canal functional at the earliest. A written request was also made to the Prime Minister to seek his appointment for the same. He said that<br/>now the Supreme Court is to hear the case on January 29.<br/> <br/>Chief Minister said that as assembly elections have already been announced, the opposition parties are trying to politicize this issue for their vested interests.<br/> <br/>In reply to the construction of three dams of Renuka, Kishau and Lakhwar Vyasi, he said that he had been to the site of Lakhwar dam and, he has urged the Central Government for early completion of these national projects. He said that the construction of these three dams would result in supply of Haryana's share of water.<br/> <br/>Referring to the other issue of Hansi Bhutana canal, the Chief Minister said that its final hearing in the Supreme Court would be in April.
