SC upholds Centre's decision to wind up Fast Track Courts

The Supreme Court has upheld the Centre's decision to wind up Fast Track Courts(FTC) in the country saying that it was a policy decision.

However, it has allowed the state government to continue with the scheme with a condition that it should not be done on an ad-hoc basis but be made a permanent feature of justice delivery system.

A bench of the apex court said it declines to strike down the policy decision of the Union of India not to finance the FTC Scheme beyond March 31, 2011.

Around 1,700 fast-track courts were set up a decade ago to speed up trial in pending cases.
