The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a petition by Nilam Katara seeking death penalty for her son Nitish Katara's murderers – Vikas and Vishal Yadav.<br/><br/>A bench of Justices JS Khehar and R Banumathi said it was a gruesome murder as a young man was murdered but it was not heinous enough an offence to be categorised as rarest of rare case warranting death penalty or even sentence for entire life.<br/><br/>The court said that it could not be termed as honour killing as the Yadav family had not objected to their friendship.<br/><br/>The Supreme Court has already upheld the conviction of Vikas and his cousin brother Vishal for the murder of Nitish. However, it is yet to conclude arguments on the quantum of sentence. The Delhi High Court had awarded 30 years imprisonment to Vikas and Vishal.<br/><br/>
