SC to hear today, Sahara chief Subrata Roy's plea against his judicial custody

The Supreme Court will hear today Sahara chief Subrata Roy's plea challenging the Court's March 4 order sending him to judicial custody, in the case relating to non-refund of 20,000 crore rupees to its investors.

Roy yesterday moved Supreme Court challenging his detention order calling it illegal and unconstitutional and demanded his release.

The Sahara group's lawyers failed to get any immediate relief with a bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam which referred the habeas corpus to a two-member bench of justices KS Radhakrishnan and JS Khehar.

The bench will hear the petition today. The petition contends that Roy is not liable for contempt as he is not a Director or officer-in-charge of the two Sahara firms, which had collected money from investors.
