SC to hear BCCI plea seeking audio tapes of Dhoni and Srinivasan today

The Supreme Court will hear today a plea filed by the BCCI, Board of Control for Cricket in India seeking transcripts of audio tapes containing statements of its former president N. Srinivasan, Indian captain M.S. Dhoni and chief IPL operator Sundar Raman, recorded by the Justice Mukul Mudgal panel. Mudgal panel is probing allegations of betting and spot fixing in the Indian Premier League, IPL. BCCI on Wednesday had moved an application in the Supreme Court to obtain a copy of transcripts of these audio tapes. A Bench of Justices A.K. Patnaik and V. Gopala Gowda posted the matter to April 11. BCCI's counsel said that the cricketing body needed the transcripts to prepare itself for the April 16 hearing. The Mudgal panel, which was appointed in October last year, had investigated the IPL scandal and submitted its report before the two-judge SC bench on February 10. Along with the reports, the panel also submitted a sealed envelope that contained severe allegations of sporting fraud. On March 28, the Apex Court had passed an interim order which stripped Srinivasan off his powers as BCCI president and appointed two interim Board heads — Sunil Gavaskar for IPL and Shivlal Yadav for non-IPL affairs.
