SC to Centre: File affidavit to clarify criteria for selecting & dropping companies in coal block allocation

The Supreme Court said today that the CBI probe report prima facie suggests irregularities in coal block allocation. The court has directed CBI not to share its report with government and give it in writing to the court. This comes four days after the probe agency submitted its latest probe status report to the top court in a sealed envelope. The court also asked Centre to file additional affidavit to clarify policy criterion for selecting and dropping companies.

The CBI informed the apex court in its report that no verification of credentials of companies was done for coal block allocation during 2006-09. CBI has registered a fresh case in the coal scam against a Jharkhand based company which was allotted North Dhadu coal block in 2006 for its sponge iron plant.
