Supreme Court said that the 'Collegium' can go ahead and appoint judges to fill the judicial vacancies. A five judge constitution bench, headed by Justice JS Khehar yesterday said appointments of judges had been kept pending for the last eight months and appointments through the present system of Collegium will not be put on hold until the Constitution Bench decides on reforms.<br/>Supreme Court has three vacancies while 370 positions of High Court judges are lying vacant across the country.<br/>A day before yesterday the bench had asked the Centre to formulate the draft memorandum of procedure for judicial appointments.<br/><br/>However, yesterday Centre turned down top court's suggestion saying it is an executive function done in consultation with the Chief Justice of India.<br/>Last month, apex court struck down National Judicial Appointments Commission as unconstitutional that assigned the task of appointing and transferring judges.
