The Supreme Court today stayed Madras High Court order waiving off farm loan to farmers in Tamil Nadu. The High Court had in April ordered co-operative banks to waive off all agricultural loans, benefiting close to 20 lakh farmers in the state.<br/><br/>The High Court took cognizance of their almost month long protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The bench had ordered state government to waive off farm loans taken by farmers from cooperative societies and stop recovery proceedings against defaulters. The farmers from the state staged a protest for over 30 days at Jantar Mantar earlier this year demanding the government to write off loans.
