The Suprme Court today stayed arrest of sociologist Ashis Nandy for his alleged anti-dalit statement. The court however, cautioned Nandy for making controversial statements.

It said that the caution must be exercised if the intention was not to hurt the sentiments of some sections of the society.

The Apex court sent notices to the centre and four states Rajashtan, Maharashtra, Bihar and Chhattisgarh where cases have been lodged against Nandy.

Nandy had petitioned the Court for the cancellation of FIRs lodged against him in these states.
