<span style="color: #222222;">The Lok Sabha has passed the  Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill 2018. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Bill seeks to amend the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Union Cabinet had approved it last week after the Government decided to bring a constitution amendment bill in Parliament to restore the original provisions of the SC and ST Act. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The amendment is aimed at nullifying the Supreme Court judgment pronounced in March this year. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The judgment had diluted the SC/ST Act as the immediate arrest of an accused under this law will no longer be mandatory.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Replying to a debate on the bill in the House, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said, after the Supreme Court order, a review petition was filed in the Apex Court and it is under consideration. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He however said, there is no certainty when the decision will come and that's why Government decided to bring the amendment bill. </span><br />''  <br />
