Supreme Court today awarded 25-year jail term to Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal Yadav in sensational Nitish Katara murder case. Vikas Yadav, Vishal and their aide Sukhdev Pehalwan have been convicted in the 2002 Nitish Katara murder case. Sukhdev has been awarded 20-year jail term.

The apex court pronounced the verdict on the appeals filed by Vikas and Vishal against the Delhi High Court order which had enhanced the life term to 25 years in jail without remission and an additional five years for destruction of evidence in the case by terming the murder of Katara as honour killing.

Today's apex Court order however gave the Yadav cousins a break by allowing their sentences to run concurrently rather than consecutively. The Supreme Court had, in August last year, upheld the conviction of the three accused. A trial court convicted them of the murder in 2008, and the conviction was upheld by the Delhi high Court in April 2014.
