The Supreme Court today asked Justice Mudgal Committee whether it is willing to conduct probe against N Srinivasan and senior cricketers named in its report on IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal.
The apex court also said, assistance of investigating agencies would be provided to the Committee if it agrees to conduct probe. The Court has asked Mudgal panel to respond by 2 pm today.
Earlier, Aditya Verma, the petitioner in the case, objected to the BCCI-nominated probe panel. BCCI had suggested to the Supreme Court a three-member Committee made up of eminent persons former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri, former Calcutta High Court Chief Justice J N Patel and former CBI Director R K Raghavan as members of the probe Committee.
Meanwhile, the Court has allowed BCCI and Srinivasan to hear some portions of the audio recordings of Justice Mudgal Committee's proceedings with a direction not to reveal anything about the contents of audio recordings to anyone. The court opined that any content of the audio recording going out would mean that cricket would be blackened in the country.
Regarding the BCCI recommended three-member probe panel, the Bench said, it will pass the order after hearing all the parties and after considering Justice Mudgal Committee's reply.
