The Supreme Court today sought the Centre's response on a petition challenging the recently promulgated rules for selection of adjudicating officials for various tribunals. <br/><br/>The courts has sought the response on the ground that tribunals were found to be allegedly compromising with judicial independence. <br/><br/>The top court asked the government to submit its reply on the plea within four weeks.<br/><br/>The petitioner gave the example of Armed Forces Tribunal and alleged that as per the recently promulgated rules, it has been placed under the complete hold of the Ministry of Defence, which is the first opposite party in every litigation before the tribunal. <br/><br/>Referring to the promulgated rules, the plea claimed that the Ministry of Defence through the Defence Secretary not only controls the tribunal but also sits in the selection committee to select the adjudicators.
