The Supreme Court has reserved its judgement on the controversial issue whether Governors can be removed with the change of government at the Centre by cutting short their five-year tenure.<br/> <br/>A five-judge Constititution Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan dwelled at length on the issue with Centre contending that the conflict of Governor's view with the national policy could invite his or her removal from the office by cutting short the tenure. The Bench also comprises Justices S H Kapadia, R V Raveendran, B Sudershan Reddy and P Sathasivam. Attorney General G E Vahanvati had said before the Bench, if the views of the Governor come in conflict with the national policy, it could be a ground for his removal.<br/><br/> However, former Attorney General and senior advocateSoli Sorabjee had said the union government cannot claim to have unfettered powers on removal of Governors.<br/>
