The Supreme Court has refused Central Bureau of Investigation Director Ranjit Sinha's plea to restrain media from broadcasting and publishing news stories on the basis of the visitors list of his residence. The Court's refusal came in the wake of reports in media which claimed that top executives of a company indicted in 2G scam had met the CBI Director at his residence several times.
Quoting the visitors diary of the residence of the CBI Director, advocate Prashnat Bhushan on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that agency's director is being influenced by the accused companies in the 2G scam.
The advocate appearing for Ranjit Sinha, raised questions on the veracity and source of the documents. The Court will consider the documents pertaining to entry list on Monday. Meanwhile, CBI Director Ranjit Sinha today said that he will recuse himself from the ongoing probe in coal scam if the Supreme Court ordered so. Sinha's statement came amid the controversy over his allegedly meeting with officials of companies accused in 2G scam. Terming the controversy as deliberate character assassination, Sinha claimed that he has not favored anyone and the courts are there to scrutinize every paper and aspect of investigations being carried out by the agency.
He said that corporate rivalry was well known in this country and unfortunately this time they were trying to engulf the CBI by carrying out malicious campaign against him.On the other hand, Ranjit Sinha has decided to file a perjury case against NGO, which has sought his removal from coal scam probe for malicious and false statements made before the Supreme Court Earlier today the Apex Court has rejected CBI Director's plea to restrain media from examining the visitors' register at his official residence after questions were raised over his meetings with several high-profile accused persons in various corruption cases.
