The Supreme Court has refused to interfere with the decision of the Medical Council of India to hold an all India Common Entrance Test for under graduate science courses.A Bench of the Apex Court said however that it is for the authorities to notify or de-notify the new admission rules and the court cannot interfere in such matters.The Supreme Court also said that it will intervene only if there is a notification and there is a petition challenging the question of law. Our correspondent says that some of the States are opposing the decision of the MCI in view of practical difficulties in implementing the new rules framed by the Council for admission.The Centre meanwhile has decided to convene a meeting of Health Secretaries next month to discuss on how the common entrance test for MBBS can be implemented. The cooperation of the states is a must to bring the common entrance test into force.According to the MCI proposal based on the Common Entrance Test, a single merit list will be created for the candidates for MBBS across the country. The Council said that it will take care of State, minorities and SC/ST quotas. The MCI proposal challenge in the court.
