SC refuses to interfere with EC's order stalling release of PM Modi's biopic

<span style="color: #222222;">The Supreme Court on Friday refused to interfere with Election Commission, EC's order stalling the release of biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi until 19th of May. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said, the issue is whether the movie can be exhibited at this time adding that the Commission has taken a decision and the court is not inclined to entertain the plea. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The counsel, appearing for producers, had told the bench that the EC's order is contrary to the clearance given to the movie by the Central Board of Film Certification.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The apex court earlier had asked the EC, while hearing the writ petition filed by the film producer Sandeep Vinod Kumar Singh, to reconsider its decision after watching the movie and give the court its report. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Producers of the movie contended that the EC's order violated their fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression. </span><br />
