Another Supreme Court bench today refused to hear an appeal against the Orissa High Courtverdict, which held as illegal the acquisition of nearly 7,500 acres for the 15,000-crore rupee Vedanta University Project in Puri. A bench of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly recuseditself from adjudicating the issue, nearly a fortnight afteranother bench of justices R V Raveendran and A K Patnaik had withdrawn from the case on January 5.The apex court bench withdrew from the case today, sayingthat one of its judges, Justice Ganguly had dealt this samematter and passed some order earlier during his tenures as the chief justice of the Orissa High Court. It ordered for listing of matter with another bench.The bench of justices Raveendran and Patnaik had refusedto hear the issue to avoid any conflict of interest as JusticePatnaik hails from Orissa.
