The Supreme Court today pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, over its Director Ranjit Sinha’s stand in the 2G spectrum scam case. The Court’s observations came as 2G case Special Public Prosecutor Anand Grover told it that Mr Sinha interfered in the case which is completely inconsistent with the investigating agency’s stand. Mr Grover said the case could have been demolished if Mr Sinha’s stand was accepted.

The Supreme Court also took strong exception to the presence of CBI officers in the court room in connection
with the 2G spectrum scam. The apex court directed the officers to leave the premises and do their duty in office. Chief Justice H L Dattu said the court does not require so many officers to be standing in the room. The top court was hearing a case seeking removal of Mr Sinha from the investigation into the telecom scam. Lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan has alleged that as CBI Director, Mr Sinha was out of line in meeting regularly at his Delhi home with telecom executives accused of criminal conspiracy in acquiring licenses for their firms.

Meanwhile, Mr Bhushan has denied the allegation that he met a CBI officer who leaked documents to him about the list of telecom executives visiting CBI Director Ranjit Sinha's residence in connection with 2G spectrum scam. Mr Bhushan, in the Supreme Court today, said he has never met the CBI officer in question. Advocate K K Venogopal said if there is any evidence against the officer suspected by CBI Director, it must be produced before the court. The court said it will take note of the issue adding that career of the officer will not be allowed to be tarnished.

Ranjit Sinha had yesterday told the court that a senior IPS officer in the CBI is the mole who supplied documents and file notings to Prashant Bhushan on the basis of which false and baseless allegations were made.
