SC quashes order to summon Sunil Mittal, Ravi Ruia in corruption case

The Supreme Court today quashed the order by the 2G special court summoning Bharti Airtel CMD Sunil Bharti Mittal and Essar Group promoter Ravi Ruia as accused in a corruption case related to allocation of additional 2G spectrum during NDA rule in 2002. A bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu said that the trial court wrongly applied the legal principle while summoning Mittal and Ruia as accused. The apex court, however, clarified that the trial judge is at liberty to summon them at any stage if material on record is found.

The two had been summoned on March 19, 2013 as accused by a special court hearing the case involving the allocation of additional spectrum in 2002.
