The Supreme Court has ordered a CBI inquiry into multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam in West Bengal, Odisha and Assam. The apex court asked the agency to conduct probe against Saradha company in West Bengal and 44 other firms of Odisha which were allegedly involved in chit fund scams.

The apex court gave the order while hearing three petitions in the Saradha scam – two from Bengal and one from Odhisa. In the last hearing while the Odisha government had told the apex court that it had no qualms in handing over probe in the chit-fund related cases to CBI, Bengal appeared to be the lone voice opposing it.
