Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj says, the Supreme Court judgement on disqualifying rebel BJP MLAs is a stricture against the Speaker and the Chief Minister of Karnataka. The apex court yesterday quashed the Speaker's decision to disqualify rebel BJP MLAs. After a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Governor described the judgement reversing the High Court verdict in this as an endorsement of his stand that the floor test should be taken on the respective strength of the parties in the Assembly. Describing his meeting with the Prime Minister as a courtesy call, he said the issue did not come up in his meeting with the Prime Minister. The Governor said his view is that the floor test is a very sacrosanct commitment and it should be carried out earnestly according to the Constitution rather than doing a head count. He, however, refused to comment on whether he will advice for seeking a trust vote to the Karnataka Government. He said he will first study the case and then write to the state government. Meanwhile, one of the BJP rebel MLAs and former Fisheries Minister Anand Asnotikar said the 11 legislators had never defected from the party and were only demanding a change in leadership. About the future course of action, Asnotikar said that they will hold a meeting to discuss the issue and consult their supporters . The leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Siddaramaiah has sought dismissal of BJP government in Karnataka in the backdrop of the apex court's order. Speaking to the media persons in Bangalore , Siddaramaiah said if the Chief Minister does not resign and dissolve the Assembly immediately then they will approach the Governor to initiate constitutional steps under Article 356 to dissolve the Government. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has said that eleven BJP MLAs who won the case yesterday against their disqualification are part of the Government and the BJP party strength has now gone up from 105 to 121.
