SC judges furnish detal of assets on SC website

Railways have ordered an inquiry into the train mishap in Gonda in Uttar Pradesh, that left 15 people dead and 51 injured.<br/><br/>Railway Safety Commissioner P K Vajpayee would conduct the inquiry into the accident. Railway Board Chairman S S Khurana and acting General Manager North Eastern Railway H S Pannu visited the accident site and ordered the inquiry.<br/><br/>The accident occurred Sunday when the speeding Gonda-Ayodhya passenger train rammed into a truck at an unmanned level crossing in Gonda.<br/><br/>Railway have established helplines at Lucknow, Gonda, Khalilabad and Gorakhpur stations for the convenience of the passengers. The numbers are Lucknow, 0522-2638353, Gonda, 05262-221526, Khalilabad – 5547-226219, and Gorakhpur 0551-1072.<br/><br/><br/>The Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan and all the 21 Supreme Court judges have furnished details of their assets which will be put on the official website soon.<br/> PTI quoting sources reports that the decision to make it public was taken last week after Mr Balakrishnan and other judges finalised the details of their assets during the Dusshera and Diwali festivals with some of them availing the services of professional chartered accountants for the purpose.<br/> The move comes against the backdrop of criticism from the legal fraternity and general public that the judges of the country's highest court who enjoyed the power of sending people to the gallows cannot fight shy of disclosing their assets to ensure probity in public life. In a landmark judgement on 2nd September, the Delhi High Court had upheld a direction of the Central Information Commission to the Supreme Court to provide information to an RTI applicant Subhash C Aggarwal as to whether the apex court judges were disclosing their assets to the CJI as mandated by a 1997 resolution.<br/><br/> <br/><br/>
