Supreme Court has issued notice to Kerala on a plea of Tamil Nadu seeking execution of its order for maintenance of Mullaperiyar Dam. Tamil Nadu has alleged in its plea that Kerala is not allowing it to maintain the historic dam.<br/><br/>The court has fixed the plea for hearing in the second week of July.<br/><br/>Last year, Tamil Nadu had sought deployment of Central Industrial Security Force, as Kerala was not facilitating management of the dam by Tamil Nadu employees.<br/><br/>In its 7th May, 2014 verdict, the Supreme Court had allowed the Tamil Nadu government to raise its water level to 142 feet and ultimately to 152 feet after completion of strengthening measures on the dam.<br/><br/>This is an ongoing row and the long legal battle between Tamil Nadu and Kerala about the Mullaperiyar dam on the Periyar river. Although the 116-year-old Mullaperiyar dam is located in Kerala, it is operated by the government of Tamil Nadu which signed a 999-year lease agreement with the former British government to irrigate farmland on its side.
