The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Centre, secretaries of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and Election Commission on plea seeking scrapping of pension and other benefits being given to former lawmakers. <br/>'<br/>A bench comprising justices J. Chelameswar? and S. Abdul Nazeer was hearing a plea filed by an NGO. The bench decided to examine whether pension and allowances such as unlimited free train travel should be given to former MPs and MLAs. <br/><br/>The court observed that the matter needs to be looked into. The petitioner argued that there are no guidelines for benefits received by former lawmakers.
