The Supreme Court will pass an interim order in the IPL spot fixing and betting case today. Hearing the case yesterday, the apex court asked BCCI to give its response today on its proposals of replacement of BCCI President N. Srinivasan by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar and suspension of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals from IPL- 7 till the pendency of the case before it.
A bench headed by Justice A K Patnaik yesterday said, it is intending to bar Chennai Super Kings, owned by India Cements, which is promoted by Srinivasan, and Rajasthan Royals, whose players and team officials are allegedly involved in the scandal, from participating in the IPL -7 tournament. The tournament is slated to begin from April 16.
The Bench also proposed to pass an order barring India Cements officials from getting involved in the functioning of the BCCI after senior counsel Harish Salve, appearing for the Cricket Association of Bihar, pointed out that many such officials are at present, part of the BCCI team. Salve also raised questions on the conduct of the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, M S Dhoni, who is also Vice President of India Cements, saying that he is guilty of corrupt practices. Earlier yesterday, BCCI submitted before the Court that its chief N. Srinivasan will step aside to ensure a fair probe .
The BCCI also postponed its press conference to launch IPL 7. The press conference was scheduled to take place at Abu Dhabi yesterday. Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar said that he will be honoured and happy to adhere to the directives of the highest court of the land.
