The Supreme Court has expressed concern over eruption of fresh violence in Muzaffarnagar claiming four lives. The court yesterday said that it will send an independent fact finding team to assess the situation if it is not satisfied with the response of the Uttar Pradesh government. A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam directed the Akhilesh Yadav government to apprise it on the next hearing on November 21 about the prevailing situation in violence hit areas. It also spoke about the affidavit of the Uttar Pradesh government and said, it looks like situation in relief camps is not what the state government is saying. The apex court is monitoring the relief and rehabilitation measures in the violence hit districts. The bench was hearing the state government's plea seeking to transfer the petition filed by a police official in the Allahabad High Court to the Supreme Court against his suspension in the wake of violence in the district.

Heavy deployment of security forces continues in the villages where four persons were killed on Wednesday night in Bhaurakalan police area of Muzaffarnagar. No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere in the district for more than 24 hours. The authorities claim that situation is tense but under control. Our correspondent reports that the police is carrying out raids in the villages to arrest the culprits who were named in the FIRs lodged earlier in connection with violence in September last.He adds that security in the trouble hit and sensitive areas of Muzaffarnagar and other adjoining districts has been beefed up keeping in view of Deepawali festival. Mukul Goel, state ADG of law and order said that six additional companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary had been deployed in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts. An uneasy calm prevails in the area.
