The Supreme Court order to release 10,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamilnadu till coming Sunday came up for discussion in the Karnataka legislative Assembly today.
The leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah urged the Government to take a firm stand on this issue.
He underscored the plight of farmers in the state and said the State should not release any water to Tamilnadu.
The Janatha Dal(S) floor leader H D Revanna urged the Government to initiate a one line resolution in the legislative Assembly that no water can be released to Tamilnadu come what may.
A few members also added that they are prepared to resign and go to jail on this issue, but the Government should not release water.
Chief Minister Jagadish Shetter however insisted that a floor leaders meeting should dwell upon the issue before a resolution is passed in the House.
The leader of the Opposition however urged the Chief Minister to reply on the floor of the House.
At this point Chief Minister said the full extract of the Supreme Court order is awaited and once it reaches them, the Government will be able to respond to the feelings of the members.
