The Supreme Court today directed the Jammu and Kashmir government to pay a compensation of up to 2 lakh rupees to the people who were injured in communal clashes in Kishtwar district.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam turned down the plea of the state government against compensating the injured persons till the Judicial Commission looking into the incident files its report.
The Bench also refused to modify its yesterday's order in which it was mentioned that the families of the deceased would be paid 5 lakh and those injured would get up to 2 lakh rupees.
Communal violence in Kishtwar had left three persons dead and several others injured.
The indefinite curfew clamped in mountainous district of Kishtwar of Jammu Division continues for the 6th day today without any relaxation while it was relaxed in other curfew-hit areas of Jammu division for varying periods.
In Jammu, the Administration gave relaxation in curfew in Southern parts of Jammu from 9.30 am to 12 which passed off peacefully.
In Kathua town, curfew was relaxed from 8 am for two hours and later relaxed upto 1 pm while it was relaxed in other areas of the district for full day.
Curfew was relaxed in Samba district from 5 am while in districts of Rajouri and Reasi, it was relaxed from 8 to 11 am. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Kathua Range, Shakeel Beigh, the overall situation is showing signs of improvement as no major untoward incident has been reported from any part of Jammu division today.
