SC directs Centre and state governments to bring police stations and interrogation rooms under CCTV surveillance

In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court has directed the Centre and all State governments to put police stations and interrogation rooms under surveillance of CCTV cameras to prevent custodial torture. An apex court bench also directed that the governments to appoint at least two female constables in all police stations. The bench also expressed concern that Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland have so far not set up State Human Rights Commission and directed them to form the panel as soon as possible
