SC asks BCCI President Srinivasan to step down to ensure free & fair probe of IPL fixing scandal

The Supreme Court has asked BCCI President N. Srinivasan to step down from his post to ensure a free and fair probe of the Indian Premier League Fixing and betting scandal.

The Court warned Srinivasan that if he fails to step down, then it will pass the order. The apex court made the scathing observation while taking up the Justice Mukul Mudgal led Committee report on corruption charges against Chennai Super Kings, its Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan who is also Srinivasan son-in-law and Rajasthan Royals team owner.

The apex court said that Probe panel report in sealed envelope contains very serious allegations and unless BCCI President steps down, no fair probe can be conducted. It has adjourned the hearing of the case to March 27.

The Mudgal committee submitted two reports to the Supreme Court on February 10. The first ask the court to decide the further course of action because the probe committee did not have the power to impose punishment.

Another supplementary report, signed by Nilaya Dutta, Vice President of Assam Cricket Association and the member of the IPL Governing council, said this should not be misinterpreted to mean that the report suggest that the Hon'bl court would decide on the punishment or penalty to be imposed.

The BCCI which supports Dutta's comments, now wants the Supreme Court to let it start fresh disciplinary proceedings against Gurunath and Chennai Super Kings under the IPL franchise rules.
