The Supreme Court has taken strong note of lack of air connectivity to Himachal Pradesh capital, Shimla. A bench, headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur, today directed the competent authorities to inform it by the 4th of next month whether air services to the city would be launched. It warned of issuing an order if the answer is in negative.

Counsel representing various authorities, like the Civil Aviation Ministry and aviation regulator DGCA, said all of them favoured launching of these services. Last week, the apex court had taken exception to the lack of air connectivity to places in the North East and Shimla's Jubbarhatti airport and rapped the government and Air India for promoting interests of private operators.
