The Supreme Court has appointed two co-mediators to resolve the Assam-Nagaland border dispute. The team comprising senior advocates Sriram Panchu and Nirjan Bhat are currently visiting the disputed areas in Sibsagar, Jorhat and Golaghat districts. The team on Tuesday made an aerial survey of the reserved forest areas in Sibsagar and Jorhat districts along the Assam-Nagaland border, which included Abhayapuri, Geleki, Dissoi, Dissoi Valley and Tiru Hills. Later, they left for bordering Merapani in Golaghat district. The Supreme Court had earlier appointed a local commission for identification of boundaries between Assam and Nagaland in September 2006. The commission is continuing with its hearings.
