The Supreme Court-appointed three member empowered committee,CEC, headed by Mr P V Jayakrishnan yesterday visited over a dozen places in the South Goa district to carry out inspection of mining illegalities as pointed out by Justice M B Shah Commission.
The committee visited mines of major mining companies at Cuddegal, Codli, Dabal, Selaulim, to know the ground-level situation in the mining areas. Some mines in the forest areas were also visited by the SC-appointed panel.
According to sources, the CEC found out major discrepancies and has sought clarification from the mining companies operating the mines.
The CEC has sought details as regards to leases of the mines, their operators, besides seeking information as regards to TC, environment clearances, etc from the mining companies, which would be verified by today.
They would meet non-governmental organisations and general public, and those interested in sharing their knowledge today and listen to their viewpoint on the illegal mining issue in the state.
