SC agrees to hear bail plea of Tarun Tejpal, notice to Goa Police

The Supreme Court today agreed to hear the bail plea of Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal.

A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam issued notice to the Goa Police asking it to file reply within four weeks.

Facing trial for allegedly raping a colleague, Tarun Tejpal had moved the Supreme Court seeking bail.

In his petition Tejpal challenged Bombay High Court’s order rejecting his bail plea.

The Goa bench of the Bombay HC had on March 14 rejected Tejpal’s bail application on the ground that main witnesses in the case were yet to be examined.

Arrested on the charge of raping a female colleague at an event held in a Goa hotel, Tejpal has been in jail since November 30, 2013.
