In Saudi Arabia, the emergency services have said that the toll from floods that tore through the port city of Jeddah this week has raised to 103. Reports say that some 1,400 residents were rescued. Fast-moving water inundated the Red Sea port on 25th of this month after Saudi Arabia saw some of the heaviest rainfall in years. Many of the victims were drowned or were killed by collapsing bridges and in car crashes. The statement added that civil defence planes flew over the affected areas searching for missing people. However no pilgrims attending the annual Haj pilgrimage were among the dead, though Jeddah is the main point of travel for pilgrims leaving the city.<br/>
