Saudi Arabia plans to build sixteen civilian nuclear reactors in next two decades at a cost of three hundred billion riyals. Coordinator at the Saudi civilian nuclear agency, Abdul Ghani Malibari said in Jeddah that the kingdom would launch an international tender for the reactors to be used in generating electricity and desalinating sea water. Malibari said the reactors would cover about twenty per cent of Saudi Arabia's electricity needs. He said the kingdom would also launch a 20-year plan in 2011 to introduce renewable clean energy.
