Satyarthi urges Bangladesh youth to stand behind disadvantaged children

Indian Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kailash Satyarthi today urged youth of Bangladesh to stand behind the disadvantaged children and help them in education and protection from exploitation.

Launching the '100 million for 100 million' campaign in a school in Dhaka this evening, Satyarthi brought together hundreds of students, youth associations, lawyers, education and development activists, civil society organisations, who took a pledge to eliminate child labour and get education for all children.

Bangladesh is the second country where the campaign aimed at engaging advantaged youth to help the disadvantaged has been launched, the first being India where President Pranab Mukherjee launched it in New Delhi last year. Talking to the gathering, Satyarthi said there are more than 100 million child labourers of whom over 5 million are in slavery.

Despite huge global progress, these constitute the world's forgotten youth and asked the advantaged youth to do everything in their capacity to give them a chance at life.

Satyarthi, said his aim is to support the largest youth mobilisation in history who will stand together to build a better future for the disadvantaged children of the world.

Earlier in the day, Satyarthi delivered the keynote address at the 136th Assemby of the Inter-Parliamentary Union deliberating on its theme : Redressing Inequality: Delivering on Dignity and Well-being for All when he exhorted the world Parliamentarians to support his '100 million for 100 million' campaign to get education opportunities for the world's 100 million child labouring for a living around the world.
