Satirist, comedian Jaspal Bhatti dies in road accident; cremation this evening

In Punjab, Actor and Comedian Jaspal Bhatti who died in a road accident near Shahkot in Jalandhar early today, would be cremated this evening at Chandigarh. He met an accident while on his was way to Nakador from Bhatinda for the promotion of his upcoming film “Power Cut”. The film is being released on tomorrow. Jaspal Bhatti's son Jasraj is making his debut through 'Power Cut'.

According to reports accident occurred at around 3 in the morning,when Bhatti`s son who was driving the car lost control over it. Bhatti`s son Jasraj and actress of his upcoming film Surili Gautam also got injured in the mishap. Both the injured have been admitted to the hospital in Jalandhar. Jasraj is currently in the ICU battling for his life.

Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni today condoled the death of comedian Jaspal Bhatti. Describing him as a pioneer of comedy content on television Mrs. Soni said, Bhatti will always be remembered for his portrayal of the problems of common man. Bhatti truly pioneered the comedy content on TV especially through Doordarshan.

The I&B minister said, Bhatti's TV shows left a deep imprint on the minds of the common people. He always regaled the people with his subtle, quiet and honest humour. Mrs. Soni also prayed to God that Jaspal Bhatti's family gathers the strength to overcome this untimely crisis.
