Sasikala to surrender before court in Parappana Agraharam in Bengaluru

Following the confirmation of jail term in the disproportionate assets case by the Supreme Court, the AIADMK ad hoc General Secretary VK Sasikala is expected to surrender before the court in the Parappana Agraharam in Bengaluru. She was convicted along with two of her close relatives in the nineteen year old case after the apex court reversed the judgment of the Karnataka High Court, restoring the verdict of the Bengaluru trial court.

The plea of her lawyers seeking four weeks time to surrender has been rejected by the Supreme Court this morning. Before proceeding to Bengaluru by road, Ms Sasikala paid homage at the memorial of late leader of the AIADMK J.Jayalalithaa, who was the prime accused though the case against her was abated due to her demise.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the AIADMK headquarters signed by Ms Sasikala says her nephew and former MP, TTV Dinakaran has been nominated as the party Deputy General Secretary. The post has been created newly in the party after about 25 years reportedly to accommodate Mr Dinakaran.

AIR correspondent reports, the Jayalalithaa memorial on the Marina Beach in Chennai has assumed political significance for the warring factions of the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. It is from here where the acting chief minister O.Panneerselvam raised the banner of revolt against Ms Sasikala. Ms J.Deepa, the niece of late Jayalalithaa, who has a sizeable following among the party sympathizers, formally announced her entry into politics by joining the O.Panneerselvam camp from there only.

Now, Ms Sasikala has began her Bengaluru journey from there. She has revoked the dismissal of two of her relatives, Mr TTV Dinakaran and Dr S.Venkatesh who were debarred from the party by late Jayalalithaa earlier. Her statement says the two had regretted for their anti-party activities based on which they have been readmitted, following which Mr Dinakaran has been entrusted with a powerful new post of Deputy General Secretary.
