Sarvodya Mela in Phillaur to commemorate immersion of Gandhiji's ashes

To observe the historic day of the immersion of the ashes of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi in river Satluj on this day 62 years ago, the annual Sarvodya Mela was organised Satluj Khadi Mandal at Gandhi Dham in Phillaur, Distt. Jalandhar, today.<br/><br/>Chairman of the Mandal, Sh. Kashmiri Lal Chopra told that people from all walks of life assembled at the Dham, which is situated on the bank of river Satluj, to pay homage to Gandhi ji.<br/><br/>A spinning programme on the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi was also held on this occasion.<br/><br/>It was on Feb. 12, 1948 when the ashes of Gandhi ji were immersed in the Satluj by the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Gopi Chand Bhargva and Governor Chandulal Trivedi.
