The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) which aimed to provide useful and relevant elementary education to all children in the age-group of 6 to 14 by 2010 is relatively performing satisfactory in Nagaland. After the inception of SSA in Nagaland since 2003, State Education department maintained that the literacy scenario of the State has changed progressively. Especially with the implementation of Mid-day meal scheme, the enrolment of students in rural areas has increased. Commissioner and Secretary of State School Education Department, T. Imkonglemba Ao, told AIR Kohima correspondent that Nagaland is now considered one of best performing states in regards of SSA in the North east Region and the overall implementation of the programme has changed the value of education, particularly in the rural sector to a great extent.
